An Embarrassment of Riches

Board Beet
By Your Board on March 10, 2015

Our board application process closed at the beginning of February and we were overwhelmed with interested owners wanting to join the board! All told, we received twenty applications - more than we’ve had in years!

Who knew shifting the election calendar would result in such a large, diverse, and well-qualified pool of applicants. We are extremely excited that so many of our owners are interested in taking their participation in our co-op to the next level.

In previous years, our board’s challenge was always to recruit a full slate of qualified applicants. This year with twenty such applicants, we are presented with a new challenge: how will we go about effectively presenting the most qualified slate of candidates for your vote?

We strive to ensure that you have an opportunity to become acquainted with the candidates for the board so that you can get to know them and be excited to vote for the people who will be representing you. This year, we will be conducting a candidate meet-and-greet and candidate panel during our Annual Meeting on March 29. This would be difficult, if not impossible, to do effectively with twenty candidates. Even the traditional mechanics of our election process would be unwieldy - can you imagine a candidate brochure with twenty profiles? That would truly be too much information!

After the nominations committee spent the month of February vetting the applicants, the full board approved the following slate of nine candidates at our February board meeting:

Dan Bucks

Lori Fredrich

Lora L. Hyler

Theresa Anne Kenney

Young C. Kim

Elizabeth Lundberg

Debbi Mamon

Tim Ottman

Lisa Reinhardt

We are confident that this is one of the strongest slates of candidates from recent years and that it will be a vigorous and strongly contested election. Each candidate has a unique and diverse set of skills and will bring with him or her a wealth of community connections that will enrich the board and the strategic leadership of the co-op.

We look forward to seeing many of you at our Annual Meeting on March 29 from 1:00 - 4:00 pm at the Tripoli Shrine Center where you will have an opportunity to meet and get to know this year’s candidates for the board.

Remember, we’ll be holding a candidate forum at the Annual Meeting, so if you have a question you’d like to ask our candidates, please post it to the comments!
