BOARD PROFILE: Meet Outpost's Board Treasurer, Jan Pierce

Board Beet
By Your Board on January 2, 2020

The Board has made various efforts to engage Outpost’s owners in order to effectively carry out its oversight role. We need to know what owners think about the organization in order to make sure it continues to meet and exceed expectations. Engagement, however, is a two way street. So we’ve decided to do a series of profiles of our board members to help you get to know us. The third one is of Jan Pierce, the Board’s treasurer.

Jan currently works as a lawyer in solo practice. He focuses his efforts on business and real estate transactional work, and serves entrepreneurs and closely-held business. He has been on his own for over eight years.

Prior to his current position, Jan spent most of his legal career at two Milwaukee law firms. His educational background includes a bachelor’s in business administration and a law degree. Over the years, he has helped hundreds of clients launch their businesses, acquire and lease real estate, navigate the downturn in the economy, and expand their operations.

Jan’s interest in serving on the Board was spurred by an Outpost owner encouraging him to run after meeting him during his campaign for Milwaukee Common Council. While he lost that election, he wanted to stay engaged with the community.

By the time he leaves the Board, Jan wants to know that he has imparted financial and accounting skills to other board members that will benefit them for years to come.  Future years are bound to be even more challenging, requiring board members to up their game, so such skills will be indispensable.
