BOARD PROFILE: Meet Outpost’s Board President, Young Kim

Board Beet
By Your Board on November 1, 2019

The Board has made various efforts to engage Outpost’s owners in order to effectively carry out its oversight role. We need to know what owners think about the organization in order to make sure it continues to meet and exceed expectations. Engagement, however, is a two way street. So we’ve decided to do a series of profiles of our board members to help you get to know us. The first one is of Young Kim, the Board’s president.

Young currently works as the Director of Foundation Giving at the School Sisters of St. Francis. He writes grants for humanitarian projects all over the world.

Prior to his current position, Young worked in non-profit administration for almost twenty years. Most recently, he was the Executive Director for Fondy Food Center. Interestingly, it was volunteering at a homeless shelter serving meals once a month that precipitated his move to the non-profit world. Until then, he had worked in the sporting goods industry.

Young’s interest in serving on the Board came about because of Outpost’s focus on providing healthy food to the community, and because it is a form of democracy that he can see, feel, and get his arms around. Interestingly, it was the contentious annual meeting six years ago that drove this last point home.

By the time he leaves the Board, Young wants to know that he is leaving Outpost a better place than he found it, and better-prepared for the challenging years to come.
