Charlie Tennessen of Anarchy Acres is keeping Wisconsin’s history alive through wheat. “Heritage grains, that’s what got me into this,” he says. “I’m interested in the healthy bread that nourished people 200 years ago.” Charlie grows a few different varieties of hard winter wheat, including Turkey Red, which he thinks is the tastiest wheat there is. This heritage wheat hasn’t been a local product for a long time. “What I want is something from the past that is healthy, healthy for my business, healthy for my farm, and healthy for my customers,” Charlie says.
