Lauren Schultz figures, if you’re going to enjoy ice cream, you might as well go all the way. Lauren and her husband, Steve, make their super premium Purple Door Ice Cream right here in Milwaukee. 

The couple hopes to open a scoop shop in the future. Until then, they’re working to develop relationships with restaurants and grocery stores in and around Milwaukee.

Lauren Schultz had long dreamed of starting an ice cream business. When she mentioned the idea to her husband, Steve, he was all for it.

Through the years, Lauren has picked up the kind of secondhand knowledge, working at ice cream shops, that gave her the confidence to start Purple Door Ice Cream, which she and Steve run out of their Bay View home.

They work out of a commercial kitchen in Cudahy. The milk comes from Wisconsin dairies. Lauren and Steve try to use local and natural ingredients as much as they can.

The couple is juggling a lot these days. It’s a young company and Lauren and Steve haven’t given up their day jobs teaching. Summer can’t come quickly enough, Lauren said. You can find pints of Purple Door Ice Cream at your favorite Outpost location.
