In 2019, Outpost was fortunate enough to start a new relationship with Better Way Farms out of South Haven, Michigan. Michigan’s unique microclimate and acidic soil makes for great growing conditions and we’d been searching for years to find an organic blueberry grower in the region. We think we’ve hit the jackpot with this grower.

What makes them so special besides their incredibly sweet taste? As Better Way’s Rich Phillips explains, it’s all in the name.  “It goes with our ‘Five Better Ways’ statements: Better way to grow which is all about regenerative farming; Better way to treat people, creating livelihoods for people in rural America; Better way to treat our neighbors by providing more nutritious food; a better way towards sustainability, one example of that is our compostable packaging; and a better way to live life which is who we are and our value system and what we’re trying to do here on the farm.” Over the course of their blueberry season expect to see a variety of berries as farm manager Joseph Jessup explains, “We have an early berry; we have two mid-season berries. We have a late mid-season berry and we have a late berry. The idea is we have a constant supply from the beginning of July through the beginning of September. Our target is nine to ten weeks of harvest.”
