Back in 2001, Charles and Milissa McGonegal started thinking about all the amazing beverages that could be made using apples. Not just any old apples, some of the exceptional antique varieties that are still available.
They partnered with Brightonwoods Orchard in rural Burlington, Wis, where they grow several uncommon heirloom apples, and ÆppelTreow Winery was born. The business is truly a family operation, with three generations on hand to run the winery.
The inspiration for ÆppelTreow’s beverages comes from America’s forgotten cider heritage and the farmstead ciders of rural England and France. They add their own creative touch to take cider from its barrel and mug origins and turn it into champagnes, draft style, still table wines, and after-dinner aperitifs.
