This summer, Outpost in Wauwatosa will be getting a “refresh” to to increase the ease of flow through the departments at the front of the store as well as update some of the store’s backroom functions. Work will begin in early June and will wrap up by summer's end. Shopper's should expect full access to everything they need during the construction phase.

Here is what we're planning

A completely new look – brighter, bolder colors, wild patterns, fun new signage, a colorful entry vestibule, polished concrete floors...and more

A new café lineup with a larger, lower easy to access service counter and expanded offerings in our grab and go department

Completely new coolers throughout the entire department which will save energy and improve traffic flow in the area

An expanded line of plant-based foods

More convenient ready-to-cook ingredients

A larger "hot and go" unit for chicken and other hot entrees

A larger, easy to shop cheese selection

More freezer space

More refrigerated beer along with expanded wine and craft liquors

An expanded building in back to increase backroom freezer and storage space, and additional prep space for our prepared foods up front

And well – more!

And yes, we will be OPEN during the remodel and expansion.

Our local construction partners

We are once again keeping it local working with our friends at MSI General to shepherd the process and the talented team at Retailworks, Inc. to imbue our store with color, design and beauty. READ MORE

What's happening this week | August 18

The big news is that we will be pouring new concrete in the loading dock area towards the end of the week. Yipppeee! However, that means the dock will be closed off completely and deliveries will be coming through the front door. So, hang out with the birds and the butterflies in our award-winning garden and watch the spectacle while sitting on the patio enjoying a lovely latte and scone. Give 'em all a few atta-boys for all their hard work.

Finish work and installation of key components for our new prep area in the deli will be taking place. What will you get out of this when it's all done? A spankin' new cut produce program that you will LOVE even more than the one we have now.

Moooove over yogurts - new dairy cooler panels are arriving. This means a new cooler is in the works. This area is hand built from the panel up to make for one really COOL room!

What's happening this week | August 11

Painting begins and indoor plants are on the move! You know when the painters come on board that we're nearing completion. Painting and hanging wallpaper will be happening after hours so you'll see a progression of color changes each day you come into Outpost, starting along the west wall of the store. And don't worry. Plants will only be moved temporarily.

At last the rooftop condenser will be lifted into place. The crane will be positioned at the back end of the lot, along St. James St. Parking in the lot will not be impeded. So you can still shop it like you mean it!

Masonry work is wrapping up at the back of the building. Look for the scaffolding to come on down by week's end. Hooray!

Moving forward, work will soon begin on the new dairy cooler. This will involve constructing new walls, reworking the ceiling grid, installing new doors and reconfiguring back room flow. What'll YOU get out of all this? A beautiful new energy efficient place for your yogurt to hang out before it jumps into your cart.

By the end of August the loading dock will reopen for business. Our receiving team says, "That's a load off our mind ..."

What's happening this week | August 4

Artwork is coming off the walls in preparation for new paint colors and wallpaper finishes. Yahoo!

On Wednesday, August 7, there may be some interruption to the morning parking lot flow after 8:00 a.m. with a crane in place to lift the steel supports for the new condensers. This shouldn't last long. Have a coffee and a muffin and watch the spectacle.

Work continues behind the scenes, especially around the new prep areas in the deli and the continued masonry work at the loading dock.

What's happening this week | July 28

Yo! Look out for delivery carts coming through the front door. Until we have our new reconfigured loading dock ready to receive trucks, this will be the norm. Sorry for the inconvenience.

We're building a wall in our lobby! Look for the framing to go into place. Once completed, our produce staff will have a little more elbow room when it comes to creating cut fruits and veggies.

When one door closes...Changes will be made along the back wall of the store. The doors into the back of the store next to the meat department are going away. Moving forward, there will now be only one access point to the back rooms and that will be nearer to the produce department.

Don't worry, Be happy - for a new condenser! Steel work is happening behind the scenes in the produce back room to accommodate some new energy-efficient condensers. Thrilling for sure! There might be a subtle welding odor wafting into the store at odd times during evening hours. This will be short lived.

As we begin to wrap up some of these early construction projects, new finishes, signs and other art pieces will begin appearing. This is when things get really fun! Stay tuned!
