The Urban Ecology Center fosters ecological understanding as inspiration for change, neighborhood by neighborhood. That's their mission. It's a straightforward statement. They have three Environmental Community Centers serving the greater Milwaukee community to help them achieve their mission. Each center has its own unique footprint in the community based on location and accessibility. All three centers are built with sustainability and the environment in mind. The flagship location at Riverside Park is an award-winning green designed building, though all of their locations are designed with the community and the environment in mind, are beautiful and have access to green space.

While each center has its own unique features, all have the same goals:
- Provide outdoor science education for urban youth
- Protect and use public natural areas, making them safe, accessible and vibrant
- Preserve and enhance these natural areas and their surrounding waters
- Promote community by offering resources that support learning, volunteerism,
stewardship, recreation and camaraderie - Practice and model environmentally responsible behaviors
